Emma Butterworth grew up in the Suzuki Method, beginning the cello at the age of 4 and learning with Christine Livingstone. She studied at Cambridge University, and later trained as a Suzuki teacher. Emma has been teaching for the past nine years and also performs as a singer and cellist in a number of bands.

As a conductor, Emma has worked with many student and adult orchestras, ranging from early years ensembles to post grade 8 groups. In November she was selected to take part in a workshop with internationally renowned conductor Jessica Cottis, run by the Royal Philharmonic Society. She has also coached a wide variety of chamber music ensembles, and enjoys leading improvisation sessions.

As well as playing and teaching, Emma is a prolific composer and arranger of music for a wide variety of ensembles and genres. She has recently gained a Master’s in Composition for Film and TV at the University of Bristol.
